8 Tips to Become More Self-Aware

There was a time recently when I came to a point of asking myself a pivotal question.

Who am I? I was DONE being told who I "should" be. An excellent wife, a doting mother, and a successful career woman. Not that these things were wrong, they were just imposed on me without my consent. I wanted to rediscover who I truly was and who I wanted to become. Can you relate?

As successful, self-sufficient women, we sometimes get caught in the trap of people-pleasing, expectation-meeting, and image-bearing and lose ourselves in the process.

The first step toward stopping that cycle and getting to know ourselves better is to become self-aware.

Here are the main benefits of self-awareness

  1. Improved decision-making: Self-awareness allows individuals to understand their own thoughts, feelings, and motivations, which can lead to better decision-making.

  2. Increased emotional intelligence: Self-awareness allows individuals to understand and manage their own emotions, as well as read and respond to the emotions of others.

  3. Better communication: Self-awareness can help individuals understand how they come across to others and adjust their communication style accordingly.

  4. Increased empathy: Self-awareness allows individuals to understand their own feelings and perspectives, which can lead to greater empathy for others.

  5. Greater personal growth: Self-awareness allows individuals to identify areas for personal growth and development.

  6. Better relationships: Self-awareness can improve relationships by allowing individuals to understand their own needs and boundaries, as well as those of others.

  7. Reduced stress: Self-awareness can help individuals identify and manage stressors in their lives.

  8. Improved mental health: Self-awareness can help individuals identify and address negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be impacting their mental health.

Choose one of these benefits and start your self-awareness journey. You owe it to yourself to take the time and effort to rediscover who you are and claim the woman you want to become.
